It’s Dri Archer’s world and the MAC is his playground

It’s Dri Archer’s world, and all the rest of the teams in the Mid-American Conference can do is watch in awe.

Archer ran for a career-high 241 yards and two touchdowns – on a 79-yard run and a 74-yard run – against the conference’s top-rated run defense as Kent State clinched its first East Division championship with a 31-24 win over Bowling Green on Saturday. The win guarantees the Golden Flashes a spot opposite Northern Illinois in the MAC Championship game in Detroit on Nov. 30.

Why are Browns fans upset with Josh Cribbs?

Judging by our timeline on Twitter Friday afternoon we are probably in the minority on this subject, but here goes:

Is Josh Cribbs’ desire to have a bigger role in the Cleveland Browns offense really a bad thing?

The Browns have a player who wants to be involved in the offense, who thinks he can help out on the field and … that’s supposed to be a bad thing? We’ve seen so many players come through town and dog it in the past 13 years – Gerard Warren, Quincy Morgan, Baryon Edwards and William Green quickly come to mind – that to hear a player speak up and want to take on more responsibility is refreshing.

So should Cribbs have a greater role in the offense over the final seven games of the season?

If Manchester City wants Suárez, Liverpool should let go

Defending champions Manchester City have turned their focus to Liverpool’s Luis Suárez, reportedly planning to offer anywhere from £40 million to £50 million during the January transfer window.

If that is the case, Liverpool really needs to make that deal – even if manager Brendan Rodgers is against it.

“It’s something I will always fight to protect the club and its assets,” Rodgers told The Daily Mail. “The modern game is very much about player movement – that’s part of football these days. But I will always fight to keep our best assets here. This is an incredible club to be involved with. Hopefully over the coming years we can return to that level, where players were here to win things and want to come here.

Browns returning to where it all started falling apart

The Cleveland Browns return to Dallas on Sunday to take on the Cowboys for the first time on the road since Week 2 of the 2004 NFL season.

Browns at the bye: Are things half-full or half-empty?

The Cleveland Browns are currently enjoying their bye week, sitting in last place of the AFC North with a 2-7 record.

Through the first half of the season the Browns have missed numerous opportunities to improve on their record. Missed plays against Cincinnati and Indianapolis, a blown lead against the Giants, and mistakes at the wrong time have all helped contribute to the current situation.

Of course, in the NFL you are what your record says you are and the reason teams are 2-7 is because they make the kind of mistake the Browns have made through the first nine weeks of the season.

“What’s nice about the bye week is, it’s about the Browns,” Browns coach Pat Shurmur said. “It’s about whoever your team is. You focus on, ‘what can we do better as we move forward?’ We’re just getting ourselves ready to go as we move forward.”

With a Sunday free of everyone’s anxiety-producing favorite team, let’s take a look at the Browns with a glass half-full/half-empty take.

Kent State cracks the Top 25

Look who’s hit the college football big time!

For the first time in almost 40 years, the Kent State Golden Flashes have cracked the Associated Press ranking, coming in at No. 25 in the latest rankings.

We can honestly say we never thought we would see this day.

What can Joe Banner do for you, Browns fans?

While many (most? 99.9 percent?) Cleveland Browns fans are excited about the regime change from Randy Lerner and Mike Holmgren to James Haslam and Joe Banner, no one can say they really know what Banner will do in his role as team CEO.

What we do know is Banner spent 19 years with the Philadelphia Eagles, 12 of them as team president. Other than that? Pure speculation (which is not without its merits, of course).

With the Browns on a bye this week, Banner took to the media circuit and, at least on the surface, what he had to say should please most Browns fans. Plus, you don’t have to look too hard to make a good guess on what the future holds for certain members of the organization.

Let’s see if we can figure out what Banner has in store for the Browns at The Cleveland Fan.

Weeden looking to improve on Browns’ red zone woes

Good news for the Cleveland Browns as rookie quarterback Brandon Weeden says he will spend the bye week working to improve.

And he’s thinking touchdowns, not field goals.

“I didn’t really do my part throughout the entire game for four quarters (and) help this team get in the end zone (against Baltimore),” Weeden told the team’s website. “There are a lot of different things. I think you have to take pride in scoring touchdowns. We talk about three points sometimes isn’t bad, but you have to score touchdowns. Just making the things that are routine, doing them 100 percent all the time, being 100 percent on the things that are routine, that’s where the great quarterbacks become great. That’s why they’re so great; they do the things consistently all the time. That’s what I’m working toward.

Zeller’s injury takes a bit off the Waiters, Irving dynamic

Bad news for the Cleveland Cavaliers and rookie center Tyler Zeller, who will be out for a while after suffering a concussion and fractured cheekbone during Monday night’s win versus the L.A. Clippers.

Zeller was hit with a wayward elbow from the Clippers’ DeAndre Jordan with 5:39 left in the game. X-rays revealed a non-displaced fracture of his left orbital cheekbone and Zeller returned to Cleveland to be evaluated further, according to a team press release. He will have to get clearance from a league doctor before he can start playing again as the Cavs are following the NBA’s concussion protocol process.

Browns to hit the road with the Travel Channel

On the road again
Just can’t wait to get on the road again.

The Travel Channel will feature the Cleveland Browns on a new series that, according to a press release, promises to “pull back the curtain” on the Browns current 2012 season.

Boy, wait until America gets a look at just how difficult it can be at times to be a Browns fan.
