Browns vs. Ravens – Week 9

2013_11_browns_ravens_previewThe Cleveland Browns return home on Sunday to take on the Baltimore Ravens in the first of three consecutive games against AFC North Division foes.

The Browns are coming off a game in Kansas City where they fell behind to the Chiefs, staged a rally, only crossed midfield once in their final five drives of the game, and walked out of Arrowhead Stadium the possessors of a moral victory to much jubilation.

Can the Browns pick up an actual victory against a Ravens team that the Browns have not beaten in their last 11 tries?

We start to find out in our game preview at The Cleveland Fan.

On Josh Gordon, bad quarterbacks and misquotes

browns keep josh gordonThe Cleveland Browns made the right move on Tuesday, deciding to take the risk and hold on to second-year wide receiver Josh Gordon.

The NFL trading deadline passed at 4 p.m. and Gordon remained on the roster despite weeks of speculation that he would be moved out of town in large part because he is firmly entrenched in the NFL’s substance-abuse policy.

While the Browns are taking a risk that Gordon will not receive another suspension down the road, it was the right move to make. The team already had enough trouble putting points on the board and Gordon is one of only two players on offensive (along with tight end Jordan Cameron) that opposing defenses need to think about come Sunday afternoon.

We look at Gordon and a few other things from Week 8 in our latest post at The Cleveland Fan.

New quarterback, same results for the Browns

browns lose chiefsThe Cleveland Browns lost to the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday by the score of 23-17.

It was the Browns third consecutive defeat, dropping them to 3-5 as the 2013 NFL season hits the halfway mark. Meanwhile, the Chiefs remained the league’s lone unbeaten team as they climbed to 8-0.

More importantly, it was the sixth time this season that the Browns scored 20 points or less on offense.

Apparently the Jason Campbell-led offensive revolution will have to wait at least one more week before it commences.

We break down all the fun in our latest post at The Cleveland Fan.

Browns vs. Chiefs – Week 8

2013_10_browns_chiefs_previewThe Cleveland Browns are back on the road again this Sunday, taking on the undefeated Kansas City Chiefs.

The Browns have decided to end the Brandon Weeden experiment at quarterback (at least for the time being) and have turned to journey man Jason Campbell to run the offense.

Yep, we’ve reached that stage of the season – after just seven games!

The Kansas City Chiefs come into the game as the NFL’s lone unbeaten team, a result that is an equal mixture of luck, opportunity and a front office that realized Brian Daboll is not an NFL-caliber offensive coordinator.

The one thing that Browns have going for them is the fact that it is almost a certainty that the Chiefs are not going to finish the season undefeated.

We take a look at the Browns chances in our game preview at The Cleveland Fan.

Will the Browns win another game this season?

will browns winTaking a look at the Cleveland Browns 3-4 record  we realized that, as bad as things are right now, it is very likely that they are going to get a lot worse before we reach the end of the season.

Worse, as in, is there a game left on the schedule that the Browns can actually win?

Worse, as in, it’s not even Halloween yet and the season, like so many before it, already feels like it is over.

Worse, as in, the Browns may have already won too many games this season to have a realistic chance at improving the most important position on the team in next spring’s NFL Draft.

We take a look at the depressing reality of the Browns after seven games, the futility of the quarterback situation, and the ongoing concerns over the running game as we close the books on Week 7 of the NFL season at The Cleveland Fan.

Browns look listless in loss to Packers

browns lose packersThe Cleveland Browns lost to Green Bay on Sunday by the score of 31-13.

It was the Browns second consecutive loss after energizing the city with a three-game winning streak.

The game was effectively over with 3:48 left in the first quarter after an Eddie Lacy one-yard run gave the Packers a 14-0 lead.

And it left us, just seven games into the 2013 NFL season, wondering if the Browns are going to win a game again this season.

We have the ugly details in our latest at The Cleveland Fan.

Browns vs. Packers – Week 7

browns packers previewThe Cleveland Browns hit the road on Sunday for Green Bay to take on the Packers in the first of two games away from home.

The Browns are coming off a frustrating loss to Detroit that broke a three-game winning streak, while the Packers come home after doing something the Browns have never done – beat the Baltimore Ravens with Joe Flacco at quarterback. The Packers are also looking for their 11th consecutive home win.

Speaking of quarterbacks, Brandon Weeden is back for another week as the Browns starter and is looking to break a five-game losing streak as the starting quarterback.

We break it all down in our preview at The Cleveland Fan.

Is it time to start worrying about Browns defense?

2013_10_browns_lions_wrapperThrough the first six games of the season, the Cleveland Browns defense has been one of the team’s bright spots.

The team is seventh overall in the NFL, giving up just a shade over 300 yards a game, is giving up a decent 20.8 points per game, and after so many years of not being able to stop the run has finally been solid against the rush, giving up just under 100 yards per game and 3.5 yards per carry.

But we can’t help but wonder if it is time to start worrying a little bit about the defense.

We tackle that subject, as well as Jordan Cameron’s production, the on-going thrill ride that is Brandon Weeden, and the Browns complete inability to run the ball as we take a last look at Week 6 at The Cleveland Fan.

Browns drop game against Detroit in predictable fashion

Ndamukong Suh, Brandon WeedenWe all knew that the Cleveland Browns were not going to close out the season with a 14-game winning streak and that, eventually, they would lose a game.

But when the end came, did it have to be in such a predictable fashion?

The Browns lost to the Detroit Lions on Sunday, 31-17, in the best example of a team loss that you will probably ever see.

The loss ends the Browns three-game winning streak and, combined with Cincinnati’s overtime win against Buffalo, Cleveland’s share of first place in the AFC North.

We have all the depressing details in our latest at The Cleveland Fan.

Browns vs. Lions – Week 6

2013_10_browns_lions_previewAfter a 10-day layoff, the first place Cleveland Browns return to action on Sunday as they host the Detroit Lions.

The game also marks the return of Brandon Weeden as the Browns starting quarterback, with Weeden looking for his first win as a starter since Week 14 of last season.

The Browns are looking to close out a stretch of three consecutive home games with their fourth consecutive victory to maintain a share of first place in the AFC North.

The Browns have not won four games in a row since the 2009 season, and have not won three consecutive home games since 2007.

In a season with so much unpredictability, what would be more unpredictable than the Browns at 4-2?

We take a look at what the Browns have to do to make that a reality in our game preview at The Cleveland Fan.
