Browns quarterbacks what we expected them to be

manziel-mccownjpg1432812159794It was not a night for the offensive highlight reel when the Cleveland Browns took on the Buffalo Bills at FirstEnergy Stadium on Thursday.

But it was a night that showed the Browns’ quarterbacks are exactly what we expected them to be.

A week after looking like the quarterback that threw for 1,829 yards, 13 touchdowns and just one interception while starting 13 games for Chicago in 2013, Josh McCown turned into the Tampa Bay-version that went 1-10 for the Buccaneers last season, while completing just 56 percent of his passes, throwing 14 interceptions and taking 36 sacks.

But Johnny Manziel did not look much better.

Talking ourselves out of, and back into, Josh McCown

NFL: Preseason-Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Jacksonville JaguarsEver since the Cleveland Browns signed Josh McCown to be the team’s starting quarterback, we’ve done what every true and loyal Browns fan has done since Nov. 8, 1993*.

We’ve justified that this time the team finally got it right at one of the most-important positions on the field.

Starting with Vinny Testaverde, and rolling along through Mark Rypien, Eric Zeier, Spergon Wynn, Jake Delhomme, Charlie Frye and Brady Quinn, just to name a few, we’ve turned talking ourselves into just about anyone the Browns have lined up behind center into an art form.

But now, after reading Bill Barnwell’s annual All-Bad Contract Team at Grantland, doubts are staring to creep in after seeing the team’s starting quarterback: Josh McCown.

Head on over to Dawg Pound Daily to find the rest of the story.

Cleveland Browns veteran QBs have been bridge to nowhere

Garcia-provides-positive-performanceWhen the Cleveland Browns signed quarterback Josh McCown in February he joined a long, but less than distinguished, fraternity in franchise history.

McCown is the latest “bridge quarterback” who will try and help the Browns will while holding the quarterback position warm until the next great quarterback arrives at First Energy Stadium.

The Browns have tried to cross this bridge several times in franchise history – especially since returning to the NFL in 1999 – with less than stellar results.

To find out where McCown may fall on the list, check out our latest post at Dawg Pound Daily.

Mike Pettine says Josh McCown is QB1 … for now

NFL: Preseason-Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Jacksonville Jaguars
Cleveland Browns head coach Mike Pettine took to the airwaves on Monday to reveal what most fans have known for quite some time now.

As of today, Josh McCown is QB1 on the team’s depth chart.

We break down what Pettine said and what it means over at Dawg Pound Daily.
