In Cleveland, hope dies last

Zeller’s injury takes a bit off the Waiters, Irving dynamic

Bad news for the Cleveland Cavaliers and rookie center Tyler Zeller, who will be out for a while after suffering a concussion and fractured cheekbone during Monday night’s win versus the L.A. Clippers.

Zeller was hit with a wayward elbow from the Clippers’ DeAndre Jordan with 5:39 left in the game. X-rays revealed a non-displaced fracture of his left orbital cheekbone and Zeller returned to Cleveland to be evaluated further, according to a team press release. He will have to get clearance from a league doctor before he can start playing again as the Cavs are following the NBA’s concussion protocol process.

On the road again
Just can’t wait to get on the road again.

The Travel Channel will feature the Cleveland Browns on a new series that, according to a press release, promises to “pull back the curtain” on the Browns current 2012 season.

Ravens try to give away game, Browns say no thanks

It was there for the taking on Sunday against the Baltimore Ravens.

The Cleveland Browns just don’t yet know how to take it.

The Browns squandered a golden opportunity to get their first win in 10 tries against the Ravens, extend their home winning streak to three games, and go into the bye week having won three-of-four games.

Instead, the Browns lost 25-15 to fall to 2-7 on the season.

Flashes ground and pound Zips to retain Wagon Wheel

Kent State kept the dream alive for another week, using the ground-and-pound offense to beat Akron, 35-24, and retain the Wagon Wheel for the third consecutive year.

The Golden Flashes were led by Traylon Durham, who finished with 107 yards rushing and three touchdowns, including the clincher on fourth-and-1 with 15 seconds left in the game; and Dri Archer, who ran for 126 yards and scored a touchdown. On the day, Kent State rushed for 261 yards, five touchdowns and an average of 6.5  yards per rush.

Browns vs. Ravens – Week 9

The Cleveland Browns welcome the Baltimore Ravens to the Stadium on Sunday, and one way or another a streak will end.

The Browns are looking for their third consecutive home win. Baltimore quarterback Joe Flacco is 9-0 vs. the Browns. The Ravens are also looking to sweep the Browns for the fifth consecutive year.

Something has to give – but what?

Let’s see if we can find out at The Cleveland Fan.

Haslam, Browns should look to Spain for inspiration

It was while reading Grant Wahl’s excellent article in Sports Illustrated, The World’s Team, that we had our ah-ha moment about the Cleveland Browns.

We want them to be the NFL’s version of FC Barcelona.

It’s not just the Barcelona wins a lot – 14 trophies in 20 competitions over the past five years (although that would be nice) – it is also how the team’s history, identity and style of play are as much a part of the city as the club.

Third-down backs, challenges, reverses and other Browns stuff

A few lingering thoughts as the Cleveland Browns get ready for Sunday’s game with Baltimore.

Just what did running back Brandon Jackson do to land in coach Pat Shurmur’s dog house?

Since the Week 1 game against Philadelphia, where Jackson caught two passes for 20 yards, no one has seen or heard from him. Not to make Jackson out to be a superstar or anything, but he did rush for 703 yards and three touchdowns for Green Bay in 2010, and caught an average of 30 passes a year as a third-down back for the Packers from 2008 to 2010.

Browns avoid losing to the Chargers

It certainly wasn’t the prettiest game you’ll ever see.

It definitely was not a game you will be telling your grandkids about one day.

But when you win as infrequently as the Cleveland Browns do, every win is a good win.

On a rainy, windy and generally unpleasant day at Cleveland Browns Stadium, the Browns did just enough to win (or just enough not to lose, depending on your perspective) against the San Diego Chargers, 7-6.

For all the details, head over to The Cleveland Fan.

Browns vs. Chargers – Week 8

The Cleveland Browns and San Diego Chargers both come into today’s game at Cleveland Browns Stadium off of disappointing losses.

The Browns dropped a winnable game against Indianapolis on the road, the franchise’s 11th consecutive loss away from home, while the Chargers went into their bye week after giving up 35 consecutive points in the second half of a loss to Denver.

Sunday’s game also marks the return of the brown jerseys, as Cleveland will drop the all-white look for the final five home games of the season.

Will that turn out to be the highlight of the day?

Who’s your MAC daddy now?

The Kent State Golden Flashes posted the biggest win in the 90-year history of the football program on Saturday, beating No. 15-ranked Rutgers on its home field.

The win is Kent’s sixth in a row – the program’s longest in-season win streak in 72 years. It is also the Golden Flashes first ever win over a ranked opponent, breaking an 0-22 streak against Top 25 teams.
