Browns flush away goodwill in loss to Redskins

The Cleveland Browns could not have asked for a better situation on Sunday against the Washington Redskins.

The Browns, in their home finale to the 2012 NFL season, were facing one of the worst pass defenses in the NFL and, because of an injury, the Redskins were forced to start Kirk Cousins at quarterback instead of dynamic rookie Robert Griffin III.

All the Browns had to do was take advantage of the opportunity staring them in the face.

Final score: Washington 38, Cleveland 21.

The loss snaps the Browns three-game winning streak, kills all the premature talk about a drive for the playoffs and certainly deals a serious blow to Pat Shurmur’s chances of coming back for a third year as Browns coach.

Browns vs. Redskins – Week 15

The Cleveland Browns close out the home portion of the 2012 NFL season on Sunday, when they host the Washington Redskins.

The Browns are looking to run their winning streak to four games and continue a run that has seen them go 5-3 since starting the year at 0-5.

Standing in the way is a Redskins team that is looking to run its own winning streak to five games as they battle for a playoff spot in the NFC.

The game really hinges on one  simple question about Washington quarterback Robert Griffin III.

Will he or won’t he?

Browns take down the Chiefs for third straight win

It was all over after the first offensive play of the game.

The Kansas City Chiefs just didn’t know it.

After allowing Chiefs running back Jamaal Charles to go 80 yards for a touchdown on the game’s opening play, the Cleveland Browns shut down the predictable Brian Daboll offense on the way to their third consecutive win.

Just like the Pittsburgh game two weeks ago, the Browns fell behind quickly, leaving fans to lose it and declare the game over. And just like the Steelers game, there was still plenty of time remaining and the Browns continued to turn into a team that finds a way to win, rather than one that finds a way to lose.

Browns vs. Chiefs – Week 14

The Cleveland Browns return home on Sunday to face the Kansas City Chiefs and look for their first winning streak of more than two games since 2009.

Following wins against Pittsburgh and Oakland, the Browns are looking to continue a turnaround that has seen them go 4-3 after starting the year at 0-5.

It’s appropriate that this game is being played during the holiday season, as the Chiefs are bringing the ghosts of Cleveland Browns past with them to the stadium. With Romeo Crennel, Brian Daboll and Maurice Carthon on the sidelines, and Brady Quinn and Peyton Hillis (maybe) on the field, it will be a cornucopia of memories for everyone involved, we’re sure.

Five questions on the Browns

We’ve been very derelict in acknowledging and thanking Dave Kolonich at Cleveland Reboot for including us in his weekly Five Questions in Five Minutes segment on the Cleveland Browns.

Just a bad job by us, really.

We’ve been joined in the last few weeks by friend of the program Jeff Rich of River Burn and The Cleveland Fan fame, Chris Pokorny from Dawgs by Nature and Steve DiMatteo from Dawg Pound Daily.

Browns vs. Raiders – Week 13

Fresh off their win against the Pittsburgh Steelers, the Cleveland Browns head west to take on the Oakland Raiders.

The Browns are still looking for not only their first road win since Week 2 of last season, but their first winning streak since Weeks 2 and 3 of last year.

The game against Oakland is the first of a three-game stretch that includes Kansas City (currently 1-10) and Washington (5-6) against teams that are nearer the Browns in ability. If the Browns can take care of business, suddenly things look better than they did when the team started the season 0-5.

Lose during this stretch and … well, let’s not think about that right now.
