Browns take down the Steelers

For more than 59 minutes on Sunday, it seemed like the Cleveland Browns were going to find a way to lose to the Pittsburgh Steelers.

After losing 23 of the past 27 games against the Steelers, it was no surprise that the agita level of Browns fans everywhere was on the rise as the game went along and, despite forcing eight Pittsburgh turnovers, the Browns could never deliver the knockout punch. And as Reggie Hodges lined up to punt with 19 seconds to go, the game still seemed very much in doubt.

But once Hodges’ punt went out of bounds at the Steelers’ three-yard line, it truly was game over.

Final score: Cleveland 20, Pittsburgh 14.

Browns vs. Steelers – Week 12

The Cleveland Browns come back home on Sunday to face the Pittsburgh Steelers in a divisional “rivalry” game.

Dating back to 1994, the Browns are just 2-13 at home against the Steelers and will be facing Pittsburgh’s third-string quarterback, Charlie Batch.

The team was also planning to hand out inflatable white flags to every fan in attendance, only the greatest game day promotion since the Cleveland Indians passed out deodorant for a Mother’s Day game in the 1960s, but wisely though better of it and canceled the promotion late Saturday afternoon.

Now that the Browns have cleared that up, what could possibly go wrong against the Steelers?

Ravens try to give away game, Browns say no thanks

It was there for the taking on Sunday against the Baltimore Ravens.

The Cleveland Browns just don’t yet know how to take it.

The Browns squandered a golden opportunity to get their first win in 10 tries against the Ravens, extend their home winning streak to three games, and go into the bye week having won three-of-four games.

Instead, the Browns lost 25-15 to fall to 2-7 on the season.

Something has to give – but what?

Let’s see if we can find out at The Cleveland Fan.

For one day, (almost) everyone in Brownstown is happy

For the first time in almost a year, Cleveland work up Monday morning to a victory by the Cleveland Browns.

Like most things in life, there was good and bad on display Sunday at Cleveland Browns Stadium, but for one day, at least, the Browns were able to overcome the bad and walk out with a win. In beating the Cincinnati Bengals, the Browns snapped franchise-record-tying 11-game losing streak, as well as a 12-game losing streak in the AFC North, and gaves Brown coach Pat Shurmur his first division win.

Browns vs. Bengals – Week 6

The Cleveland Browns return home to take on the Cincinnati Bengals in the final game under the ownership of Randy Lerner.

The Browns are facing the prospect of not only losing their 13th consecutive game in the AFC North Division, but their 12th consecutive game overall – which would be a franchise record.

Much has been made of the Browns losing 11 games in a row, primarily because that is really bad, but because they have come consecutively, it feels even worse.

“Our focus is to win the next game,” Browns coach Pat Shurmur said. “(The losing streak), it’s not a motivator. What’s a motivator is going out and winning a division game at home.”

Having proper motivation is a good start, but is that enough?

Browns battle but still beaten by Baltimore

The battling Cleveland Browns dealt with rainy weather, heavy balls and the Baltimore Ravens on Thursday night at M&T Bank Stadium.

And while the Browns gave a better effort than they did just four days prior, they still ended the night on the wrong end of the scoreboard, falling to 0-4 on the season after a 23-16 loss to the Ravens.

We know there are no moral victories and all that, but the fact that the Browns had a chance to tie the game at the end is a positive. The Ravens are a Super Bowl contender that has won 12 consecutive home games and 20-of-21 overall at home. After spending all week hearing about how the Browns were going to be embarrassed on national TV, it was good to see the Browns hang with the Ravens as best they could.

Browns vs. Ravens – Week 4

The Cleveland Browns head to Baltimore to take on the Ravens in the NFL Network’s nationally televised Thursday night game of the week.

Should be a lovely time.

How will the Browns respond after a team-wide poor showing on Sunday against Buffalo? In some ways, having a short week could be a blessing for the Browns as they get a chance to wash the losing taste out of their months quickly.

Plus, facing a division foe should help with the game planning. As the teams face each other twice a year, there really shouldn’t be anything the Ravens can throw at the Browns that they are not expecting.

Of course, being the Browns, none of that may matter.

Sixteen truths about the upcoming season for the Browns

Coming off a 4-12 season and with multiple rookies taking over at key positions, 2012 could be shaping up to be a rough season for the Cleveland Browns.

Not helping matters is the fact that the Browns play in the AFC North Division – the National Football League’s Group of Death – which contributes to the Browns having the third most-difficult schedule heading in the season.

According to ESPN, of the 10 teams that had the toughest schedules in 2011, the New York Giants (fourth-hardest) made the playoffs. But of the 10 teams with the easiest schedules, eight of them advanced to the post-season.

Fear not, though, Browns fans. Here are 16 truths – one for each opponent – to help get you ready for the upcoming season.

Head over to The Cleveland Fan for the rest of the story.
